touring paddel sup boards

gets you on your feet

One of the greatest advantages of paddle boarding is that it gets you on your feet and helps maintain both your body and mind. Most people only focus on the physical aspects of this activity, but it’s incredibly beneficial to a variety of other health aspects as well. Not to mention, it gets you out of your house and onto the water with just an inflatable paddle board pump, board, and paddle!

helps with balance

Paddle boarding requires a lot of balance to stand up on the board. This means that you’ll be practicing both your core and leg strength to keep yourself balanced on the board. Plus, better balance can help you balance your life and general and have better focus throughout the day.

Paddle boarding can be a great stress reliever due to the sedative nature of the water around you and the ability to make the action all about you.

Not to mention, falling off the board can give you a serious adrenaline rush to push off any stressful feelings. Plus, just breathing in the salt air and being on the water by yourself can be enough to get rid of any negative energy you’re possessing.

With just your stand up paddleboard paddle in hand, it is difficult to think about any of your past worries.

Believe it or not, it takes your entire body to use your SUP inflatable paddle board well. This means that while you’re paddle boarding, you’ll be working your back muscles, core, arms, legs, shoulders, and torso, offering you a whole body workout.

SUP boarding is all about endless adventures, and our Touring Starboard inflatable paddle boards are designed for just that. They are ideal for touring, exploring and discovering. With Double Chamber Technology for extra stiffness and safety consideration, these are the perfect boards for a multi-day trip or a step up in performance.

paddle sup questions

For SUP surfing and whitewater, your paddle should typically be 4”-8” inches longer than your height. For touring, cruising, fitness and yoga 6” to 10” inches over your head is the right length. And for racing, 8” to 12” tends to be best.

To find the right stand up paddle board for you, consider how you’re going to use it, how it will fit your body and how you want it to handle in the water. The key decision points will be the shape of the board, getting the correct volume and capacity, as well as the proper length, width and thickness.

You might wonder: can I stand up paddle board when I’m overweight? The answer is yes! It might seem a bit daunting to do because you may struggle to climb back on the board without assistance because of poor upper body strength, fatigue, or wider shape of your belly, but that’s the challenge you have to accept.

Stand up paddle boarding is one of the best full-body workouts. SUP Fitness can burn more calories in an hour than most sports because of the combination of strength, balance, core and endurance. Whether you are surfing, racing or recreational paddling, you will get in shape in no time.

10-11 feet
The most popular SUP boards for general use are 10-11 feet in length and between 32 and 34 inches wide. If stability is a high priority for you, you’ll want to look for a board that is 33-34 inches wide. You can go wider, but you may end up with a board that is sluggish and less fun to paddle.
The general convention for determining the correct paddle size is to take the rider’s height and add 9-10 inches. If you’re 5’11” ideally you should get a paddle about 80-81 inches, or 6 feet 8 or 9 inches. This is the recommendation for the average user.

Choose paddle length for your type of paddling. For touring, fishing or fitness paddling, look for a paddle that’s about 10″–12″ longer than you are tall. For river running or surfing, a slightly shorter paddle works best — approximately 8″ longer than your height.

Yes, paddle board paddles should float. Although you can’t see it, the foam within the paddle provides buoyancy. This way, should you lose hold of your paddle in the water, it won’t sink to the sea floor, likely never to be recovered.

85 to 95 square inches
Blade sizes for adult paddlers should ideally range from 85 to 95 square inches. A smaller blade leads to a faster paddling cadence, while a larger blade allows for slower but more powerful strokes.

Quick Answer: For all-around leisure paddlinginflatable SUPs are much better overall, due to advantages in durability, portability, weight, versatility, and injury prevention. But if you are buying a board mainly for SUP surfing or racing, certain technical attributes of hardboards make them worthy of consideration.

Plus, they don’t weigh as much and therefore are easier to carry. Many 10′ paddleboards can carry 250-300 lbs of weight, and the iRocker can carry up to 350 lbs. It also makes a great SUP for beginners.

Like anything, done with the proper safety in mind, correct conditions, and the correct equipment, SUP is a very safe sport, as it takes place at low speeds. However, basic water safety rules always apply: wear a PFD, wear a leash, don’t paddle alone, and don’t paddle after dark are just a few of the basics.
